This is the first chapter of my happiness journey. Chapter 1 in books is always full of hope and sets the tone for the rest of the story. So to set the tone for my personal journey I knew that I was going to need some motivation I came across this App called Sanity and Self and that’s where my journey began.
So I downloaded this App, basically on a whim and just to try and see and I decided I was going to wake up early (5:30am) and listen to my first segment to help motivate me to continue positively throughout the day. So that’s what I did.
Waking up at 5:30am that first day, it was actually very easy considering it was the beginning of spring and the sun was coming up and I listened to my first segment. “Intro to Self Care”. It was 2 minutes long and it basically said, “take a deep breath, and here you did it! you made the first step towards self-love and now you can be happy that you took these few minutes for yourself” (this is not a direct quote, this is just a paraphrase).
Now that thought of me taking those 2 minutes to listen to this motivational recording was, in fact, self-care, self-love, and my first success act towards creating healthy habits and working towards my positivity/happiness was validation. Validation in the fact that I just took a step, and everyone I think forgets about the steps and only focuses on the triumphs and it’s like if you are not succeeding then you are not achieving. You are achieving with every step you take towards your goals. whether it’s just dipping a toe or a small baby step or even a giant leap or even a head-first jump, every conscious effort towards your goals is an achievement. I wish I had this knowledge earlier in life, however better late than never I guess, and everything in its own time…
So now it’s my time, and maybe it’s your time to continue you’re steps towards mental health, and if you feel like you need extra motivation to try out sanity and self it’s directed towards women which is why I chose it, but I’m sure you can find similar apps for men or both. Or find free ones on Spotify or youtube, whichever you think will help you and motivate you and remind you that self-care isn’t selfish and self-love isn’t narcissism, and taking just a few minutes a day to do something you love is super important and amazing and step in the right direction.
Feel free to share your thoughts and experiences with self-care and self-love and how you started your journey.
