Chapter Two to my self-love and care journey, where I get my ass out of the house and go for a walk every day for at least an hour.

Now I just want to be clear that just because I get up at 5:30am every day doesn’t mean I stay up, some days I just roll back over and fall back asleep, and I try not to get upset with my self about it. I have to remember that it’s okay and that a majority of the time I do get up and I do get a start on my day. So just remember for all these things if you are bettering yourself, these are habits that take time and as long as you keep trying, you are succeeding.
Now my second thing to add to my routine is that I wanted to get out of my house more, which sounds silly especially for a 23-year-old. In full and honest disclosure I am a huge couch potato! My spare time consists of curling up with a good book and watching endless Netflix. I have this wonderful dog who’s my life and my fiancee’s dog whom I love, and at most I was taking them out for 20-30minutes around the neighborhood and they love it but I know they wanted more and I needed more for my own health. So I decided that I was going to go for an hour walk every morning and enjoy nature and her running around.
So that first day was amazing and I wandered around and listened to music and watched my 12-year-old fur baby and her little 2-year-old brother running around like puppies in the woods and fields and it was amazing!
The best part about everything was that I felt so present in my moment, just appreciating the sun and the wind and the trees and my fur babies were so happy, and on the way home I kept looking back and seeing them both all tuckered out in the back seat. It was amazing and wonderful just in its the simplicity that I took time to myself and appreciated the moment and feeling one with nature.
Honestly if you are going through anything in life that will always be my #1 advice to anyone, GO FOR A WALK!
Having a fight with a loved one? GO FOR A WALK!
Feeling Anxious or Depressed? GO FOR A WALK!
Need exercise but not feeling motivated? GO FOR A WALK!
Need space or time or place to think? GO FOR A WALK!
It really is so freeing to just move and think and relax and be among the world and you look and notice things it’s super grounding. I personally listen to music but this is a great time to listen to meditations, to listen to motivations, to dream and think and process.
Walking has given me a discipline and has elevated my moods, and gives me a sense of accomplishment first thing in the morning so that when I go to work in the evening (because I work evening shifts in a group home), I feel like I’ve had a day, and I did something with my day and people don’t get how satisfying that is unless they’ve been in a place where they weren’t able to do anything for emotional or physical reasons.
Plus the health benefits of walking are amazing!
Increased Heart and Lung Fitness
Reduced risk of heart disease and stroke
Improved management of conditions such as her tension, high cholesterol, joint, and muscular pain or stiffness, and diabetes
Stronger bones and improved balance
Increased muscle strength and endurance
Reduce Body Fat
It’s better than running for your knees and other joints, and if you do at least 30 minutes a day then you should see an improvement. If not an improvement physically than mentally. Get a breath of fresh air, smell a rose is a cliche for a reason.
